by Heather from Virtuous Daughters, September 2010~Volume 10, Number 6 As my home school family learns about this vast earth, we notice that everything has a beginning and an end. We read that even our ever faithful sun is using up its energy at an astonishing rate of millions of tons each second; it can’t last forever, and hasn’t always been. Such can truthfully be said about the entire universe; everything has a beginning and end. So, when as Christians we claim the God of the Bible as the divine Designer of the world, someone could very well pose the questions, “Who created God? When was His beginning?” The foundation verse of the Bible simply states, “In the beginning God . . .” There is no attempt to prove His existence, nor does it imply that He had a beginning. But, rather, the Bible makes clear that God is outside time. “But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.” 1 Peter 3:8 He created time and has no beginning or end! “I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and ending, saith the Lord, which is, and which was, and which is to come, the Almighty.” Revelation 1:8
Non-Christians think that we are unreasonable to accept the existence of such a supernatural Being. They claim that modern science, which has produced our technology and medical advances, cannot allow for such a notion. Isaac Asimov, boldly an anti-creationist, stated in the June 1970 issue of the Smithsonian, “In a man’s head is a three pound brain which, as far as we know, is the most complex and orderly arrangement of matter in the universe.” Since then, that has been confirmed and it’s been discovered that our brains are even more intricate and complicated. Wouldn’t it then be reasonable to think that our brains, which designed the modern computer, would also have a Designer? The fact is that God is an Uncreated Being! Evolutionists claim that to believe in such a mysterious God, one must have an extreme extent of faith. That may be true; the Bible does teach that we are to live by faith (Matthew 21:19–22). But, my opinion is that it takes even more faith to believe the theory of evolution! (The belief that something came from nothing? PLEASE!) I marvel in harmony with the psalmist, “When I consider Thy heavens, the work of Thy fingers, the moon and the stars which Thou hast ordained; what is man, that Thou art mindful of him? And, the son of man, that Thou visitest him?” Psalm 8:3–4 But, what is more amazing is the fact that this Almighty God, the great Architect of heaven and earth, wants a personal, day to day relationship with you and me. We are the crowning jewels of His creation, and were put here for the purpose of bringing glory to Him. “. . . Thou hast covered me in my mother’s womb. I will praise Thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: and marvellous are Thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well.” Psalm 139:13–14 Comments are closed.
