Sharing the Gospel with Children

A NOTE TO OLDER SISTERS
One of the sweetest memories I have is the story of one of my brother’s salvation. As an older sister, each of my siblings’ testimonies of coming to Jesus is a treasure, but his has always held a special place in my heart. This is because I prayed for his salvation with a fervor unlike any other.

A Vessel for His Glory

3/20/2023

by Naomi
from Virtuous Daughters, October/November 2018~Volume 18, Number 4

Vessels are used in the Bible many times in connection with this topic of consecration. The only time this word actually appears in Scripture is in the context of the tabernacle or temple, as God gives His people instructions on how to serve Him best. The word "consecrate" means to "set apart" and to "dedicate," specifically, "to the service and worship of God."

In this sense, we as Christians are compared in 2 Timothy 2:20 to vessels, set apart and consecrated for the Master's use. "But in a great house there are not only vessels of gold and of silver, but also of wood and of earth; and some to honour, and some to dishonour. If a man therefore purge himself from these, he shall be a vessel unto honour, sanctified, and meet for the master's use, and prepared unto every good work." (2 Timothy 2:20-21)

A Chore or an Opportunity?*

3/13/2023

by Tiffany S.
from Virtuous Daughters, November 2022~Volume 2, Number 8

Quiet time with the Lord is so important. Yet sometimes, at least for me, it can be a chore instead of an opportunity. At times I wake up and think about what I need to do that day, and think “I’ll just read one Psalm, and that will be my Bible reading.” :( This special time with our heavenly Father is supposed to be an opportunity, not a chore to get through the day. Our hearts must be in the right place!

Thy Word is like a Garden, Lord

3/6/2023

by Emily
from Virtuous Daughters, February 2011~Volume 10, Number 11

Thy Word is like a garden, Lord,
With flowers bright and fair;
And every one who seeks may pluck
A lovely cluster there.
Thy Word is like a deep, deep mine;
And jewels rich and rare
Are hidden in its mighty depths
For every searcher there.

Thy Word is like a starry host:
A thousand rays of light
Are seen to guide the traveler,
And make his pathway bright.
Thy Word is like an armory,
Where soldiers may repair;
And find for life’s long battle-day
All needful weapons there.

O, may I love Thy precious Word,
May I explore the mine,
May I its fragrant flowers glean,
May light upon me shine!
O, may I find my armor there!
Thy Word my trusty sword,
I’ll learn to fight with every foe
The battle of the Lord.

(a hymn by Edwin Hodder)

As seen in the words to this hymn, the Bible can be likened to many things. In Psalm 19, we are told that God’s Word is “more to be desired than gold” and “sweeter than honey.” Job said he esteemed God’s Word more than his necessary food. We know that the Bible is inspired and preserved by God, free from any error. It is a powerful “sword” for spiritual battles. Hiding God’s Word in our hearts will help to keep us from sinning. The Word of God produces faith, which is necessary for salvation. As 2 Timothy 3:16–17 tells us, “All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: that the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works.”
