by Tiffany S. from Virtuous Daughters, February 2016~Volume 15, Number 11 A NOTE TO OLDER SISTERS One of the sweetest memories I have is the story of one of my brother’s salvation. As an older sister, each of my siblings’ testimonies of coming to Jesus is a treasure, but his has always held a special place in my heart. This is because I prayed for his salvation with a fervor unlike any other. At about five years old, this brother began asking many deep questions regarding heaven and other spiritual issues. Typically, after we answered him, he would silently leave the room. Sometimes we would find him sitting in the corner of his bedroom in deep thought. It was apparent that there was a spiritual battle waging.
I felt very burdened to pray for his salvation. I knew that the Lord had a mighty plan for his life which the enemy fought to thwart. I thought of Luke 22:31-32: “And the Lord said, Simon, Simon, behold, Satan hath desired to have you, that he may sift you as wheat: but I have prayed for thee, that thy faith fail not: and when thou art converted, strengthen thy brethren.” The Lord gave me many Scriptures to pray for my brother, and it was assuring to remember that Jesus had prayed for his salvation also (see John 17:20); Jesus had died to redeem his soul. I will never forget the night he got saved. He and my mother walked into my bedroom to share this precious news with me. His face was literally glowing! His heart bubbled with joy and gratitude. The days that followed were filled with him singing hymns and devouring God’s Word passionately. He was saved around Easter time, which carried significance. I could not stop thanking the Lord for His work in Ethan’s life. I also thanked Him for giving me the opportunity to plead for my brother's soul. Dear girls, never under-estimate the influence and opportunity you have as older sisters. Pray for your siblings. God must do the work to save their soul, but be available to hear their heart, answer their questions, and pray incessantly for the most important decision they will ever make. Comments are closed.
