by Brianna from Virtuous Daughters, June 2006~Volume 6, Number 3 My Dear Virtuous Daughters, I would like to tell you a little story. There once was a young girl named Carrie Fisher. She came from a poor family so she had to make a
living by washing dishes in the kitchen of a rich family’s home. One day as she was drying some forks and knives, she began singing a song that encouraged Christians to shine in their corner for Christ. As she sang, she realized that she had the opportunity right where she was to shine in her corner. So she became more diligent at her work and made an effort to make each of those forks and knives to sparkle. by Emily from Virtuous Daughters, December 2012~Volume 12, Number 9 ~What is Thanksgiving really about?
For some, it’s just another holiday with lots of good food to eat. But for us as Christians, it’s more than that! It’s a day where we stop and remember all of God’s blessings to us, thanking Him for what He’s done for each one of us. by Lori from Virtuous Daughters, November 2011~Volume 11, Number 8 Thanks to God!
(by August Ludwig Storm, translated by Carl E. Backstrom) Thanks to God for my Redeemer, Thanks for all Thou dost provide! Thanks for times now but a mem’ry, Thanks for Jesus by my side! Thanks for pleasant, cheerful springtime, Thanks for summer, winter, fall! Thanks for tears by now forgotten, Thanks for peace within my soul! Thanks for prayers that Thou hast answered, Thanks for what Thou dost deny! Thanks for storms that I have weathered, Thanks for all Thou dost supply! Thanks for pain, and thanks for pleasure, Thanks for comfort in despair! Thanks for grace that none can measure, Thanks for love beyond compare! Thanks for roses by the wayside, Thanks for thorns their stems contain! Thanks for homes and thanks for fireside, Thanks for hope, that sweet refrain! Thanks for joy and thanks for sorrow, Thanks for heavenly peace with Thee! Thanks for hope for the tomorrow, Thanks through all eternity! “O give thanks unto the LORD; for He is good; for His mercy endureth for ever.” —1 Chronicles 16:34 “By Him therefore let us offer the sacrifice of praise to God continually, that is, the fruit of our lips giving thanks to His name.”—Hebrews 13:15 “In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.” —1 Thessalonians 5:18 by Candace Joy from Virtuous Daughters, July 2008~Volume 8, Number 4 Recently, I have been very blessed to meditate on the love of God. In this article, I hope to draw your attention to the unfathomable love that God has for us, His children, as well as the result that this love should produce in our lives. This is by no means exhaustive, and I encourage you to study this topic further.
by Tiffany S. from Virtuous Daughters, December 2006~Volume 6, Number 9 Christmas—what a special time of year! For many, it is a favorite holiday. But the meaning goes far beyond cookies, music, and presents. It’s about the risen Christ Who has come to this world to save us from our sins. That is something to be excited about!
Even though most of us are quite aware of this wonderful news, we occasionally take it for granted and do not joyfully share it with others. But Christmas is a time when we have ample opportunity to proclaim Christ’s birth, death, resurrection, and the Gospel message. Here I would like to share with you an idea of a way to do that. by Mrs. Lori B. from Virtuous Daughters, June 2010~Volume 10, Number 3 “In the Garden”
I come to the garden alone while the dew is still on the roses And the voice I hear falling on my ear the Son of God discloses. (Refrain) And He walks with me, and He talks with me, And He tells me I am His own; and the joy we share as we tarry there, None other has ever known. He speaks, and the sound of His voice, is so sweet the birds hush their singing, And the melody that He gave to me within my heart is ringing. I’d stay in the garden with Him though the night around me be falling, But He bids me go; through the voice of woe His voice to me is calling. (words and music by C. Austin Miles, 1868–1946) |
