by Tiffany S. from Virtuous Daughters, March 2004~Volume 3, Number 12 Although most people look at the outer beauty of a person, God looks at the heart. It is far more important to beautify our hearts than our bodies. “But the Lord said unto Samuel, Look not on his countenance, or on the height of his stature; because I have refused him: for the Lord seeth not as man seeth; for man looketh on the outward appearance, but the Lord looketh on the heart.” 1 Samuel 16:7 Some of the qualities of a truly beautiful person are as follows: Meekness, Love, Joy, Peace, and Determination. A meek person is not weak, but humble, and credits God for His accomplishments. He is wise to only speak when he must. “Even a fool, when he holdeth his peace, is counted wise: and he that shutteth his lips is esteemed a man of understanding.” Proverbs 17:28
A loving person is a selfless person. He makes Jesus his first priority, then others, with himself being last. He is careful to give others the best and makes special precautions to be a help to everyone. “But many that are first shall be last; and the last shall be first.” Matthew 19:30 A joyful person is relying on the Lord to bring him through the circumstances he faces, and he never leaves time for reflecting on his problems. Instead, he puts on a smile, gives his problems to the Lord, and goes on with his day. “…the joy of the Lord is your strength.” Nehemiah 8:10 A peaceful person recognizes that life on this earth is only for a little while. “For what is your life? It is even a vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away.” James 4:14 Although he does all to the glory of God while living here, he does not let obstacles hinder his walk with the Lord. Instead, he gives his burdens to the Lord and trusts God to walk him through life. Psalm 55:22 “Cast thy burden upon the LORD, and He shall sustain thee: He shall never suffer the righteous to be moved.” A determined person remembers that “courage is holding on one minute longer.” (source unknown) He does not shirk the task the Lord or other authorities have assigned to him. Even when “the tough gets going,” he keeps his eyes on Jesus and uses what the Lord has given him to surmount all circumstances. A determined person treasures the promise in 2 Timothy 4:7-8: “I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love His appearing.” So, as we see, a truly beautiful person does not have to have an attractive outer appearance. All that matters is his heart; his inner qualities reflect Jesus, and he relies on the Lord for strength. A truly beautiful person has devoted his life to serving his Master, and therefore, has no reason for apprehension. “Whose adorning let it not be that outward adorning of plaiting the hair, and of wearing of gold, or of putting on of apparel; but let it be the hidden man of the heart, in that which is not corruptible, even the ornament of a meek and quiet spirit, which is in the sight of God of great price.” 1 Peter 3:3-4 Comments are closed.
