by Brittany S. from Virtuous Daughters, February 2006~Volume 5, Number 11 “My soul thirsteth after Thee.”—Psalm 143:6 I smiled to myself as I watched my six-year old brother read his Bible. I had to help him with the big words and hardly got time for my own Bible study, but still enjoyed watching him as he completed his first book of the Bible—Philemon by name—since he got the Bible for Christmas. Girls, reading God’s Word is an important aspect in our lives—there is so much for all of us to learn. I know it is hard to have a daily quiet time, but you do not know what it will do for you! There is so much to learn from God’s Word. One of my favorite books is Hebrews. I suggest you read this book if you haven’t already.
God wants us to read His Word. He wants us to use it…to show the way of Christ to the unsaved, to show the truth to unbelievers, and just to seek out how He wants us to serve Him. We should come to it in times of trouble, in times of distress, in times of happiness. “Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.” (Psalm 119:105) As the Bible says, we need to be “doers of the Word and not hearers only.” Study the Scriptures, and take it as an opportunity and not as a chore. Many Christians want to read the Word of God, but can’t. While we, who have more advantages, take it, too often, for granted! Obeying the Scriptures and reading them are two very different things. Memorize this verse and next time you are tempted, say it in your head. “The Lord knoweth how to deliver the godly out of temptation.” (2 Peter 2:9) and “Is anything too hard for the Lord?” (Genesis 18:14) …Shouldn’t we give a little of our day to the Lord to spend time with Him? Isn’t that what life is all about? Yes! The Lord wants to spend time with His children, so shouldn’t we want to spend time with Him? Of course! Stop what you’re doing, and if you haven’t had your quiet time today, have it, and just be still and know He is God! “How sweet are Thy words unto my taste! Yea, sweeter than honey to my mouth!”—Psalm 119:103 Comments are closed.
