by Brittany S. from Virtuous Daughters, August/September 2019~Volume 19, Number 3 Michael Faraday was a great scientist who dedicated his life to exploring the mystery of electricity. Among his accomplishments was the invention of the first electric motor. Yet Faraday was also devoted to unveiling the mysteries of God's Word, which he read and memorized every morning and evening and preached on Sundays. First Thessalonians 5:21 was an especially meaningful verse to him; the exhortation to "prove all things" was one that he obeyed through his early years of trusting God to provide for and teach him as a struggling young scientist. He once declared, "A careful scientist proves all things. And to conduct experiments requires faith. Well, I have spent my lifetime proving Christ. I have found Him to be the God of the Bible, and the Lord of Creation (Hebrews 11:1-2). Electricity works because it is true. In the same way, the Christian life works because it is true. My faith has been rewarded. The Bible says that 'faith is...the evidence of things not seen' (Heb. 11:1)."
When, near the time of his death, a reporter asked him about his "speculations" on what lay beyond, he exclaimed, "I know nothing about speculations! I am resting on certainties, on what I have proved. I know that my Redeemer lives, and I, too, shall live." Comments are closed.
