by Naomi Grace B. from Virtuous Daughters, January 2016~Volume 15, Number 10 What is most precious to you and to me?
What is most precious in God’s eyes, really? Is it diamonds and rubies, silver and gold? Beautiful jewelry, antiquities old? We all know what’s precious in the world’s eyes today, Beautiful things that will yet pass away. Rubies and diamonds, silver and gold, Beautiful metals, antiquities old. They think that silver is valued quite high, And many for gold have been willing to die. Wealth and fame too, they hold precious and dear; Station and social standing; what you have on earth, here. Yet, what is most precious in an eternal sense? What will truly matter, many years hence? Will it be “precious” rubies, silver and gold? Wealth, fame, and fortune? Antiquities old? First off, precious to Him, in the sight of God, Is a meek and quiet spirit, while this earth we’ve trod. Women, young ladies, do you possess this rare thing? An ornament more lovely than necklace or ring. A precious jewel, a pearl of great worth, A thing not possessed by many on the earth. It is in the sight of God of great, precious price, A thing that should adorn any woman of Christ. What else is quite precious in God’s eyes today? What else is more valuable than rubies, per se? The souls of men and women, all over the earth, Of children and young people-- all of great worth. Each soul is precious to our loving God, Each one who has lived on this sinful sod. Each one is a person that never will die, That is a human, just like you and I. Each one is worthy dying for, our Savior knew, So He died, that they might have eternal life too. Each one is precious-- beyond measure of man, Each one is of value more than houses or land. The Word of God, holy, is precious as well, And this we must never cease others to tell. So precious that blood has been shed for its worth, By those counted too worthy to live on this earth. Ah, yes, it is precious, and given quite free Here, yet many can never a page of it see. The thoughts of God, found in its pages so pure, Are precious, and they shall forever endure. Good character’s precious; a thing that is rare, And it adorns all those who strive it to wear Unity’s precious, and not often found, Yet in Christian places, it ought to abound. The lips full of knowledge are precious, indeed; In these days of mockery, and lies that some heed. Yet true wisdom that comes from the lips of the Lord, Is more precious than gold, and ‘tis found in His Word. The blood of Christ’s precious, and mighty to save, Each one that believes in Him from sin and deaths’ wave. It’s the only thing that can save a poor soul, And all that can serve to make a sinner whole. And Jesus is precious, and wonderful, too A Friend that will always be quite near to you. He’s God’s gift that’s given quite freely to all, Who on Him believe—Who on His name call. His promises are precious-- of sins washed away, Of a home up in heaven for each Christian someday. Of His presence to comfort, to guide, and to lead, Of His goodness and mercy forever to be! Oh, my friends, souls are precious, and worth living for, Not the things of this earth, but our wonderful Lord! Rubies and diamonds, silver and gold-- They shall all fade away, when this earth is old. And yet, there will last, as bright trophies for Him, The souls that will always live; the ones entered in. The treasure that’s laid up in eternity-- So...what art thou living for? What’s precious to thee? What God Says is Precious...
