Ponderings on Psalm 138

6/15/2020

by Tiffany S.
from Virtuous Daughters, February 2009~Volume 8, Number 11

Gleanings from the 138th Psalm...
  • “I will praise Thee with my whole heart: before the gods will I sing praise unto Thee.”
With all of my heart will I praise my God. I should not be ashamed to worship Him even in the presence of today’s idols and gods.

  • “In the day when I cried Thou answeredst me, and strengthenedst me with strength in my soul.”
Thank You, Father, for always hearing my prayers and granting me Your unfailing source of grace and strength.

  • “All the kings of the earth shall praise Thee, O LORD, when they hear the words of Thy mouth.”
Your Word, O God, is powerful; at the name of Jesus every knee will bow and every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord.

  • “Yea, they shall sing in the ways of the LORD:  for great is the glory of the LORD.”
All shall praise Your glorious name because Your glory is beyond comprehension.

  • “Though the LORD be high, yet hath He respect unto the lowly: but the proud He knoweth afar off.”
All hail the power of Jesus’ name! Our God is to be worshiped, yet He has taken notice of my every tear and counts the number of hairs on my head. How immeasurable are your thoughts unto me, O God! May I always be humble and lowly of heart, as that is what You desire. The sacrifices You want of me are a broken and contrite spirit—you will not despise it.

  • “Though I walk in the  midst of trouble, Thou wilt revive me: Thou shalt stretch forth Thine hand against the wrath of mine enemies, and Thy right hand shall save me.”
God will never leave or forsake His daughter. His right hand upholds me, and He is the great Victor and Conqueror of all my enemies—including the spiritual enemies Satan, temptation, my selfish flesh, and the world. My God is my Savior, and I can put my confidence in His unfailing strength.

  • “The LORD will perfect that which concerneth me: Thy mercy, O LORD, endureth for ever: forsake not the works of Thine own hands.”
The things that cause me anxiety the Lord will take care of. I do not have to fret or worry, but simply trust in Him to supply my needs and attend to my cares. If I can simply rest in Him, I will be at peace. I must cast my burdens upon Him by prayer and supplication and in thanksgiving make known to Him my requests and desires. Then His peace—the peace that passes all human understanding—will keep my heart and mind through the grace and strength of Jesus Christ, my Lord and my God. The mercy of the Lord does endure forever—a truth and promise to rest in; He will not leave or forsake the work of His very own hands—me. Thank You, God. Worthy is Your name, above all names, to praised! Amen.
