by Kelly from Virtuous Daughters, June 2008~Volume 8, Number 3 Sometime ago, the Lord impressed upon me how wonderful it would be to spend a whole day focused on Him. Life is so busy. I make time for eating, sleeping, exercising, even shopping and vacations. But could I take a whole day off from my normal responsibilities and focus totally on the Lord? I told my family about the idea and they were very excited. It occurred to them, that if I was very sick for a day, they would all manage without me. They liked the idea so much, they even offered to deliver meals and snacks upstairs to my bedroom! The special day came. I woke up early and spent some time on my knees in prayer that the Lord would teach me many things and just guide my day. Breakfast soon arrived on a tray at my door. A beautiful little flower from our yard was even included in a tiny vase.
I spent a great amount of time in the Word and then wrote what God was teaching me in my journal. It was so refreshing knowing I had time to just be with my God. When my mind would wander to all the things I had to do, I would quickly jot them down on a list and just let them go for another day. I spent time singing, talking to my Father, and reading other spiritually uplifting books. I spent some time as well praying for family, friends, and our nation’s leaders. God taught me so much. He impressed upon me how little time we have here on earth. Life is a vapor. (James 4:14) My heart’s desire was and is to glorify God all the years of my life, to serve Him and allow Him to use me in any way He would want to, in ways that would have eternal value. Ephesians 5:16 teaches us to redeem the time. The Lord also showed me that I was not wasting the day by spending time with Him. James 4:8 “Draw nigh to God and He will draw nigh to you.” Toward the end of my day, the Lord gave me a special gift. He filled my mind with the words for a poem. I called it: A Life in the Master’s Hand I am created in the image of Your mighty hand of power and love I stand in awe of all You do Your Son has cleansed me and made me new And though there are many toils I bear I know there is a home in heaven I’ll share I have a life of days so few And I will choose to live for You Oh may I live my life holy and fervent Until I hear “Well done, thou good and faithful servant.” Written with love to my heavenly Father, Kelly I came downstairs that evening and joined my family for dinner. It was a special time of sharing with them all the ways the Lord blessed me that day. I also thanked them for giving me this special time to worship and bow before my God. God is always with us, even when we are rushed and hurried, but what a joy I found in being still and knowing that He is God. (Psalm 46:10) Psalm 95:6 “O come, let us worship and bow down: let us kneel before the Lord our maker.” Comments are closed.
