by Tiffany S. from Virtuous Daughters, November 2007~Volume 7, Number 8 The hand-copied document had been finalized and was now only lacking a cluster of daring signatures. Who would be the first to sign, if need be, his life away? John Hancock was no coward. While writing in distinct, large letters, he said the following to his fellow Congressmen: “There, George the Third can read that without his spectacles.” Here was a man, boldly declaring his independence and willingness to sacrifice all for the cause of liberation from a tyrannical force. What was this document he so confidently endorsed? It was America’s Declaration of Independence.

I have found that exercise helps a lot! I especially like doing it around the house, like…doing just ten jumping jacks. Or sometimes I have races with my siblings. That’s pretty fun! I also like running in the backyard with my dogs. You could also make a chart for yourself. And one thing that helped me get into the routine of exercising is to only do a little bit one day, then do more and more each day so that you get better. Also make up some stuff and mix it in with other exercises, and then have some fun with naming them weird stuff like “Hippopotamus Jump,” or something like that. Well, I hope you find my tips useful. In His Service, Susannah by Danielle from Virtuous Daughters, April 2003~Volume 3, Number 1 When looking for jewels,
You must look high and low, Here and there, and back again. If you don’t find one, Something must have gone wrong. For there are jewels, everywhere, High and low, here and there. And even more when you go back again. Every person is a jewel- A precious jewel, Their heart is a jewel, Their soul is a treasure, Their presence is worth more Than a thousand pieces of gold. And their love is worth more Than everything good in the world. So treasure them now, For someday they may not be there To love and make you happy. by Brianna from Virtuous Daughters, July 2003~Volume 3, Number 4 Cooking—what a subject! It’s a word that brings to mind thoughts of steaming, cinnamony, hot Apple pie or a cheese-loaded, pepperoni-smothered, homemade pizza just out of the oven! It might also bring to mind some flops with less desirable smells and tastes. Now I don’t know about you, but I really like to cook and the Lord has blessed me with a Mom and Grandma that love to cook too. And of course as with anyone who cooks or bakes, I have made many embarrassing and inedible dishes, of some I will relate to you here.
by Tiffany S. from Virtuous Daughters, October 2007~Volume 7, Number 7 Follow your heart and your dreams will come true . . . We’ve all heard it. And it does sound reasonable, right? It leads us to believe that we can truly rely on feelings to guide our daily lives… As a result, we’ll be happy and successful. I’m not sure who thought up this quote, but we can be sure he maintained a fervent belief in himself and in his own will.
When a new idea (or even an old idea) is presented to you, what is the proper action to take? Pull out the Word of God and see what He has to say about it. Our Lord’s infinite wisdom and authority is the only instruction that should dominate the way we live our lives. Thus said, when we hear the “follow your heart” notion, we should retreat to the Bible and see if this is a Biblical truth. by Tiffany S. from Virtuous Daughters, November 2022~Volume 2, Number 8 Quiet time with the Lord is so important. Yet sometimes, at least for me, it can be a chore instead of an opportunity. At times I wake up and think about what I need to do that day, and think “I’ll just read one Psalm, and that will be my Bible reading.” :( This special time with our heavenly Father is supposed to be an opportunity, not a chore to get through the day. Our hearts must be in the right place!

I wanted to encourage you in the area of Bible reading. I know that it may seem impossible at times to have a daily quiet time, but oh how important it is! The more time we spend in the Word, the more we realize how much we need it in every area of our lives. Just as our physical food nourishes our physical body and keeps it alive and growing, the Bible is our spiritual food that keeps us nourished and growing in Christ. Our heavenly Father wants us to be utterly dependent on Him, and to depend on Him, we must know Him, and to know Him, we must read His Word. If it is a struggle for you to get this habit formed, you might try this: have someone hold you accountable. Ask someone to ask you every day if you had your quiet time that day. Or another way is to tell yourself in the morning that you must have your spiritual food before you have your physical food (breakfast). Another thing to remember, girls, is that when we pray, it is a way to talk to God, and when we read His Word it is a way to listen to God. May the Lord bless each of you as you learn many things in His Word. by Brittany S. from Virtuous Daughters, February 2006~Volume 5, Number 11 “My soul thirsteth after Thee.”—Psalm 143:6
I smiled to myself as I watched my six-year old brother read his Bible. I had to help him with the big words and hardly got time for my own Bible study, but still enjoyed watching him as he completed his first book of the Bible—Philemon by name—since he got the Bible for Christmas. by Hannah from Virtuous Daughters, September 2004~Volume 4, Number 6 Dear Sisters,
Over the past few weeks God has just overwhelmed me with His awesome goodness, love and faithfulness! Do you ever wonder if God hears your prayers? Well, I just wanted to remind you that He does! About a month ago, I was a little discouraged and I just asked God to remind me of His goodness. I knew God was good; I just needed a reminder. Nothing is too little, small, or simple for God. God wants us to trust Him for everything! Do you ever ask God for everyday things? Have you asked God for material things? What about little things you would like to have, but you just don’t have the money for?... We want to be careful not to put God in a box or be demanding of Him. We need to realize that God’s will is truly best and desire it more than our own. We need to learn to be content no matter what. :) by Cheryl S. from Virtuous Daughters, November 2004~Volume 4, Number 8 Darling Virtuous Daughters,
Let’s first try to discern wants from needs. Here is a partial definition in our dictionary of them both: 1. Want-to desire greatly; wish. 2. Need- a lack of something necessary. Looking at these definitions we see that a want is a desire, while a need is a necessity. It is apparent that we may not even want what we need. It is also apparent that we may not even need what we want. Does that confuse you? Let’s consider both of these situations: |
