A-Z Memory Verses*

The Scriptures tell us that Solomon was the wisest man who ever lived. Toward the end of his life, he admonished young people with the following: “Remember now thy Creator in the days of thy youth, while the evil days come not, nor the years draw nigh, when thou shalt say, I have no pleasure in them.”  

As a young child, my parents instilled in me the importance of memorizing God’s Word. They encouraged me to not just store up “head knowledge” but to apply the verses in my daily life, keep them in my heart, and guard them.  They knew the Scriptures would lead me to a personal relationship with Jesus and help keep me from sin, “Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against Thee.” ~ Psalms 119:11

My father and mother specifically selected these verses with an emphasis on salvation and the character development of a younger child. These A-Z verses were among some of the first I ever learned. I hope they will be a blessing to you!

• For All have sinned, and come short of the glory of God. ~ Romans 3:23
• Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house. ~Acts 16:31
• Children, obey your parents in the Lord: for this is right. Honor thy father and mother; which is the first commandment with promise; That it may go well with thee, and thou mayest live long on the earth. ~ Ephesians 6:1-2
• Depart from evil, and do good; seek peace, and pursue it. ~ Psalm 34:14
• Even a child is known by his doings, whether his work be pure, and whether it be right. ~ Proverbs 20:11
• For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. ~ Romans 6:23            
• Go to the ant, thou sluggard; consider her ways, and be wise: Which having no guide, overseer, or ruler, provideth her meat in the summer, and gathereth her food in the harvest. ~ Proverbs 6:6-8
• Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God is one Lord: And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might. ~ Deuteronomy 6:4-5
• I will bless the Lord at all times: His praise shall continually be in my mouth. Psalm 34:1
• Jesus saith unto him, I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by Me. ~ John 14:6
• Keep thy tongue from evil, and thy lips from speaking guile. ~ Psalm 34:13
• Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal: But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal: For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also. ~ Matthew 6:19-21
• Make a joyful noise unto the Lord, all ye lands. Serve the Lord with gladness; come before his presence with singing. Know ye that the Lord He is God: it is He that hath made us, and not we ourselves; we are His people, and the sheep of His pasture. Enter into His gates with thanksgiving, and into His courts with praise: be thankful unto Him, and bless His name. For the Lord is good; His mercy is everlasting; and His truth endureth to all generations. ~ Psalm 100
• No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and Mammon. ~ Matthew 6:24
• Open Thou mine eyes, that I may behold wondrous things out of Thy law. ~ Psalm 119:18
• Pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that He will send forth laborers into His harvest. ~ Matthew 9:38
• For the Words of God is Quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. ~ Hebrews 4:12
• Receive my instruction, and not silver; and knowledge rather than choice gold. For wisdom is better than rubies; and all the things that may be desired are not to be compared to it. ~ Proverbs 8:10-11
• Study to show thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the Word of truth. ~ 2 Timothy 2:15
• This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success. ~ Joshua 1:8
• Unto Thee lift I up mine eyes, O Thou that dwellest in the heavens…~ Psalm 123
• Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth My Word and believeth on Him that sent Me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from life unto death. ~ John 5:24
• Wisdom is the principle thing; therefore get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding. Exalt her and she shall promote thee: she shall bring thee to honor, when thou doest embrace her. She shall give to thine head an ornament of grace: a crown of glory shall she deliver to thee. ~ Proverbs 4: 7-9
• EXcept the Lord build the house, they labor in vain that build it: except the Lord keep the city, the watchman waketh but in vain… ~ Psalm 127
• Young men likewise exhort to be sober minded. In all things showing thyself a pattern of good works: in doctrine showing uncorruptness, gravity, sincerity, sound speech, that cannot be condemned; that he that is of the contrary part may be ashamed, having no evil thing to say of you. ~ Titus 2:6-8
• Zion heard, and was glad; and the daughters of Judah rejoiced because of Thy judgments, O Lord. For Thou, Lord, art high above all the earth: Thou art exalted far above all gods. Ye that love the Lord hate evil: He preserveth the souls of His saints; He delivereth them out of the hand of the wicked. ~ Psalm 97: 8-10
