Country Biscuits

from Virtuous Daughters, March 2006~Volume 5, Number 12

  • 2 c. flour
  • 1 T. sugar
  • 4 tsp. baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp. salt
  • 1/2 c. shortening
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 c. milk
 
Preheat oven to 400. In large bowl, combine flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt. Using pastry blender, cut in shortening until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. In small bowl, whisk egg and milk. Add to dry ingredients; mix well. Turn dough out onto a lightly floured surface; knead 10–12 times. Roll out dough to 1/2 inch thickness. Using 2 1/2  inch biscuit cutter, cut into circles. Place on cookie sheet. Bake 10–14 minutes or till golden brown.
