by Brittany S. from Virtuous Daughters, May 2004~Volume 4, Number 2 Six year old Grace slowly skipped out of the house thinking about her mother’s last words. Today was to be a great day. She was to meet her friend Betsy at the little country store. They were to walk on the road for awhile, then make a sharp turn onto the little path that made way deeper into the woods. By now she and Betsy had left the store and were nearing the creek. “Let’s go wading!” Betsy shouted, now running toward the creek. Grace hesitated a moment, thinking of how Mother had told her to not go in the creek. Then she answered, “Yes, I guess…”
The two girls ran into the creek, and after getting used to the routine, ran and then fell into the water on purpose. Suddenly nothing was so fun any more. While running, Grace slipped by accident. Oops- what had happened? Suddenly she had gone under water! Betsy did not know either! She was scared when she saw Grace was gone. At last she found Grace under water. She got her out and together they walked home. Once she was home and had told her mother what had happened, she gave her a sharp scolding. “I should have never let you go.” She said. “You could have drowned. Next time obey me.” Deep inside, Grace knew that next time she would obey. But I can Try Written by Brittany I may be little, I may be small; But I can try, and that is all. Comments are closed.
