by Tiffany S. from Virtuous Daughters, March 2008~Volume 7, Number 12 As I lean against the kitchen table and gaze out the window, I quietly ask the Lord, What do You want me to do? Where do You want me to go? What should my agenda look like? What’s the next step? Ever so gently, His reply comes to me as I watch a cheery bird sing on a branch: You’re right where I want you to be. Keep going, day by day. Be content. When I have a new duty for you, I will bring it to you. There is not reason for you to seek anything out. I want you right there—right where you are. Remain dependent on Me alone.
Those words are so refreshing! The Lord is pleased with what I’m “doing,” even though it does not always seem like much to me. But for some reason, this is His perfect plan and it is best for me. That is a reason to rejoice. What I am “doing” now is nothing amazing or glamorous to the world, but it’s exactly what God wants me to be doing. For it is through these small, daily tasks and opportunities to exercise patience and self-control that He is making me dependent on Him and is conforming me to the image of His Son. What a wonderful plan! I watch the clouds lazily float across the blue sky. They don’t appear to do much, I reflect, but how vital they are to God’s plan for creation! As I read through Jeremiah 1, my eye rests on verse 16: “And I will utter my judgments against them touching all their wickedness, who have forsaken Me, and have burned incense unto other gods, and worshipped the works of their own hands.” Works of their own hands. Hmm. Even though this is referring to physical idols, a picture of what I sometimes focus on—“doing” something that sounds important—is suddenly flashed in my face. Worship Me, the Father says. Do not get caught up in the works of your own hands. Look for acceptance and fulfillment in Me alone. All those that love Him shall be joyful! How joyful I am in the strength of my Lord!
