by Tiffany S. from Virtuous Daughters, April/May 2017~Volume 17, Number 1 Dear Sisters, …One of my prayers for this year was that I would enjoy sweet fellowship with the Lord in His Word. One way I hoped to do that was by reading through the Bible chronologically....my sweet brother surprised me with a chronological Bible as a New Year’s gift! It has been such an exciting journey as I have learned many beautiful lessons and truly enjoyed spending time with the Lord. A few things He has shown me thus far.... God Knows. Numbers 11:4-34. What a sobering account! It is amazing to see how God eventually gave the Israelites their request but “sent leanness to their souls” (Psalm 106:15). How much better it would have been for them to find their fulfillment in the Lord and His perfect provision, instead of complaining about what they did not have. Our God sustains us; He knows just what “food” we need for optimal spiritual growth (Psalm 145:15-17). In this situation, it wasn’t a matter of “Is God powerful enough to provide meat?” It was a matter of only He knew what was necessary for the well being and sanctification of His people. Anything He withholds is out of His mercy! See Psalm 78:29-31.
This lesson has had a huge impact on my life. It has helped me to truly rest in the Lord as I wait for Him. I am so thankful that God knows best. God Sees. Numbers 7. Tedious chapters like these can be easy to skim, but God will show us special truths when we take the time to read with an eagerness to learn! This chapter reminded me that the Lord sees and remembers everything we offer to Him, however large or small. No sacrifice willingly made for the Lord is insignificant to Him. See Exodus 25:2! I am so thankful that God sees our humble efforts to please Him. God Makes a Way. Leviticus 5:5-13. How beautiful to see the gracious heart of God in this passage! The sacrifice required for a sin offering was a lamb, but those who could not afford a lamb were permitted to bring turtledoves; the especially poor could even bring flour. God is willing that none should perish (2 Peter 3:9)! He always makes a way for repentant sinners to come to Him for forgiveness! (The only true Way is Jesus Christ—the perfect, spotless Lamb of God Who became our sufficient sin offering.) I am so thankful that God has made a way for salvation to all who call upon Him. God Sustains. Exodus 33:12-14. It appears that Moses wanted just a few “details” regarding the Lord’s instructions to him. But the Lord gave something so much better...He promised His presence and His rest. Truly, God’s grace is sufficient for us and His strength is made perfect in weakness (2 Corinthians 12:9). I am so thankful that God sustains us. God Separates. Exodus 33:16. A dear friend shared this beautiful truth with me: “The fact that God is going with them is how the children of Israel will be separated from all the people that are on the face of the earth. It was a beautiful picture of our positional sanctification that we have in Christ. We are set apart because He dwells in us! We are His.” I am so thankful that God separates us unto Himself. God Delights. Exodus 19:4-6. The Lord calls His faithful children His own peculiar treasure. How humbling that He would delight in us, His creation. Also read Isaiah 43:1-2. I am so thankful that God delights in us! God Delivers. Exodus 13:3-10. The Israelites set aside a time to recall God’s faithfulness in delivering them from bondage in Egypt. When is a time that we consistently remember God delivering us spiritually from the bondage of sin and death? I love to use the Lord’s Supper to gratefully reflect on the blood of Jesus that causes God to “pass over” my sin. I am so thankful that God delivers us! God Remembers. Genesis 40:23. The chief butler forgot Joseph’s kindness and even his request to be mentioned, but God didn’t! The eyes of the Lord are in every place, beholding the good and the evil, and He shows Himself strong on behalf of those whose hearts are fixed on Him. See Proverbs 15:3 and 2 Chronicles 16:9. God never forgot Joseph, and in His infinite wisdom, He accomplished His perfect will for Joseph’s life. I am so thankful that God remembers us. God is so good! The more I study God’s Word, the more I see the impeccable character and loving heart of my heavenly Father. May we be excited about serving Him for the rest of our lives on earth and praising Him for all eternity. I encourage you to dig into the Word. Make it your goal this year to learn of Him. You will find rest for your soul. Much Love in Christ, Tiffany Comments are closed.
