by Mrs. Cheryl S from Virtuous daughters, November 2005~Volume 5, Number 8 Darling Virtuous Daughters, I write this to you with a concern in my heart that there might possibly be some of you thinking something like this, “I don’t need to read the articles on pride, because I don’t have a problem with that.” But, dear girls, don’t think for a second that you are immune to pride. We can all be tempted to think prideful thoughts, and if left unchecked, they will turn into prideful attitudes. I believe pride can bring much pain and sorrow to those around us, particularly those in our family. With the help of the Lord, however, it can be overcome in our lives. Some help on how to overcome pride (or prideful thoughts):
#1– Realize that you are nothing apart from God. He made you and holds your breath in His hands this very moment. #2– Confess your pride to the Lord. Pride is a sin with many consequences, ask the Lord to help you. #3– Use the Sword of the Spirit (the Bible). When having a prideful thought (a lie), replace it with a Scripture (the truth). Some great verses for us to memorize: “But God forbid that I should glory, save in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ.”—Galatians 6:14 “Pride goeth before destruction, and an haughty spirit before a fall.”—Proverbs 16:18 Many blessings!
