by Lydia from Virtuous Daughters, November 2009~Volume 9, Number 9 I cannot think of anything more damaging to the inward and outward beauty of a girl, than bitterness. It is a seed, that once planted, begins to choke out the grace and sweetness of a young maiden and is terribly hard to get rid of. The plant grows rapidly, and sends out new shoots that produce more seeds and can easily spread to others. Let me tell you about some ways this seed is planted, how it spreads, and what you must do to get rid of it.
by Maggie from Virtuous Daughters, April/May 2020~Volume 20, Number 1 What a privilege it is to serve the living God! All through the Scriptures, there are stories in abundance of God's faithfulness, His protection, His provision, His conviction, His salvation, and His awesome love.
Over and over in my life, I have witnesses His goodness with my own eyes...my dad's job, my older brother's miraculous healing, His saving us from many wrecks, so many answered prayers, His patient, loving teaching--and the salvation of Jesus for a soul such as me! So, why is it that I would ever find myself in the middle of overwhelm? Mind whirling, heart anxious, weighed down with worries... This past fall, I experienced this in a very real way when my family's safe, steady, comfortable little world seemed threatened by so much change all at once! I do not like change, yet it surrounded us on many levels. I felt frustrated--I couldn't do anything to STOP IT--and so I worried. I literally felt panicked. Even though I prayed and prayed to trust God with those circumstances, I had a difficult time letting the worry go. by Tiffany S. from Virtuous Daughters, December/January 2018~Volume 18, Number 5 Recently I was reading through an old journal and found some lessons the Lord had taught me about "wholehearted devotion to Christ." It was good for me to be reminded of these things, and I thought I would share with you as well!
First Corinthians 7:34 tells us that our single years are a priceless opportunity to serve the Lord without distraction. But sometimes it seems like the longer we wait, the easier it can be to become distracted. :) (I remember reading Titus 2:13 "Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ," and being challenged to stay on the "look-out" for the glorious appearing of my Savior, not the glorious appearing of someone else! :)) How can we keep our eyes on Christ and offer Him single-hearted devotion during this season of our lives? God used the life of Ezekiel to teach me some important truths along these lines. Read with me about the Lord's calling on Ezekiel's life: "And He said unto me, Son of man, I send thee to the children of Israel, to a rebellious nation that hath rebelled against Me: they and their fathers have transgressed against Me, even unto this very day. For they are impudent children and stiffhearted. I do send thee unto them; and thou shalt say unto them, Thus saith the Lord GOD. And they, whether they will hear, or whether they will forbear, (for they are a rebellious house,) yet shall know that there hath been a prophet among them. And thou, son of man, be not afraid of them, neither be afraid of their words, though briers and thorns be with thee, and thou dost dwell among scorpions: be not afraid of their words, nor be dismayed at their looks, though they be a rebellious house. And thou shalt speak My words unto them, whether they will hear, or whether they will forbear: for they are most rebellious. But thou, son of man, hear what I say unto thee; Be not thou rebellious like that rebellious house: open thy mouth, and eat that I give thee." - Ezekiel 2:3-8 by Candace from Virtuous Daughters, October 2010~Volume 10, Number 7 “Flee also youthful lusts: but follow righteousness, faith, charity, peace, with them that call on the Lord out of a pure heart.”—2 Timothy 2:22 A few weeks ago, I was pondering this verse, and hope that what I learned may be helpful to all of you.
by Kristin from Virtuous Daughters, June 2011~Volume 11, Number 3 “Storm’s brewing, Sir!” The lookout cried from above. “Nor ‘easter. She’s going to be a bad ‘un!”
“Aye!” the captain replied. The wind was already picking up. He could tell the lookout was right. “All hands to yer stations!” he cried. “Batten down the hatches, if you please!” “Aye, sir!” The hands scrambled to nail down the openings. If water were allowed below, the ship would be in trouble. The captain knew from experience; this storm would produce mighty swells, maybe fifty-footers. The ship would pitch and groan under the force of the water, which would seek the lowest point of the ship. It would seek in vain, though, for the men were hard at work battening down the hatches. However, the captain had another concern. “Look sharp, man!” he called to the lookout. “Lash yourself to the mast. We’re in enemy waters . . .” by Brianna from Virtuous Daughters, November 2002~Volume 2, Number 8 Dear Sisters,
I would like to share with you my experiences in daily Bible reading. About four years ago (I was 10), my dad bought me a “Read the Bible through a year” Bible. I was very excited about starting, so the next week which was now New Years (how convenient :)) I began the long process in God’s Word which is bringing me closer to Him than ever. I have now read the Bible through three times and am working on my fourth year. The Lord has taught me soo much in my 5-10 minutes I spend with Him daily. "Waiting on the Lord" Series by Sarah B. from Virtuous Daughters, April 2017~Volume 17, Number 1 “Hope deferred maketh the heart sick: but when the desire cometh, it is a tree of life.” (Proverbs 13:12)
True words indeed! The shattered remains of once-beautiful hopes...the memories of things past...the crushing grief of an arrow that pierced our tenderest and dearest desire (Lamentations 3:12). The path seems so painful and narrow that we can barely breath (Lamentations 3:7). Will the pain of this dark night ever pass? by Tiffany S. from Virtuous Daughters, October 2017~Volume 17, Number 4 “Take my love, dear Lord, I pour at Thy feet its treasure store.”
I have sung those lines time and time again. The words are beautiful, and I long for them to be more than just a sentiment; my prayer is that they would ring true in my life. In this article, I would like to share a few thoughts regarding keeping Christ as our “First Love” (see Revelation 2:1-5). We are most fulfilled when Christ is our All (Psalm 107:9). I hope these things I am learning in my own journey can be an encouragement to you, dear sisters in Christ. by Sarah B. from Virtuous Daughters, November 2011~Volume 11, Number 8 With fervor, the young lady scrubbed the dirty dinner pot. She was growing frustrated with the seemingly enormous stack of dishes that awaited her attention, for she wanted to finish a sewing project after kitchen duties were completed. Her siblings had vanished after the meal was over, leaving her alone to clean up. Sharon inwardly grumbled in self-pity, when her thoughts were shocked to silence when her mom walked in the kitchen with a sober face. Her announcement was startling.
