by Amanda from Virtuous Daughters, March 2015~Volume 14, Number 12 I walked into the health foods store and saw a young ‘earthy-looking’ employee in the produce section. It was a normal outing to the store, but then the thought, “Why don’t you witness to her?” Me: “Oh…no…well…what would I say? I can’t just walk up to her and say Jesus died for her sins!” That would be quite the first impression! God had been working in my heart to be bold in witnessing, but…Here? Now? What if I say the wrong thing? God’s grace prevailed and I found myself in front of this unsuspecting worker asking, “If you were to die tonight, do you know where you would go?” I waited for her reaction…she actually was looking very contemplative; she wasn’t even yelling angry words at me! She replied to my strange question by listing off several exotic countries that she would really like to visit before she died! Surprised by her answer, I said, “Actually, I meant, where do you think you would go after you died?” This time she looked very contemplative. She did not know what happens after this life, and I had the opportunity to explain the Gospel of Jesus Christ. She did not fall on the ground in repentance or even seem very responsive, but I had obeyed, and I walked away with a great sense of joy and fulfillment.
by Tiffany S. from Virtuous Daughters, November 2007~Volume 7, Number 8 The hand-copied document had been finalized and was now only lacking a cluster of daring signatures. Who would be the first to sign, if need be, his life away? John Hancock was no coward. While writing in distinct, large letters, he said the following to his fellow Congressmen: “There, George the Third can read that without his spectacles.” Here was a man, boldly declaring his independence and willingness to sacrifice all for the cause of liberation from a tyrannical force. What was this document he so confidently endorsed? It was America’s Declaration of Independence.
by Tiffany S. from Virtuous Daughters, February 2016~Volume 15, Number 11 A NOTE TO OLDER SISTERS
One of the sweetest memories I have is the story of one of my brother’s salvation. As an older sister, each of my siblings’ testimonies of coming to Jesus is a treasure, but his has always held a special place in my heart. This is because I prayed for his salvation with a fervor unlike any other. by Tiffany S. from Virtuous Daughters, September 2008~Volume 8, Number 6 O gift of gifts! O grace of faith!
My God! how can it be That Thou, who has discerning love, Shouldst give that gift to me? How many hearts thou mightest have had More innocent than mine! How many souls more worthy far Of that sweet touch of Thine? Oh, grace! Into unlikeliest hearts It is thy boast to come, The glory of Thy light to find In darkness spots a home. Oh, happy, happy that I am! If thou canst be, O faith The treasure that thou art in life What wilt thou be in death? The above poem was taken from Mrs. E. Prentiss’ beloved classic, Stepping Heavenward. I would highly recommend this book; in fact, I have literally highlighted many portions that were encouraging/convicting to me. Very thought-provoking! When I read Romans, my heart is overwhelmed with pure joy and gratitude to our heavenly Father to think of His mercy and grace—the unmerited goodness of God. Never skim the book of Romans. Read it—again and again and again—it is brimming with truth about the wonderful doctrine of salvation! by Kristin from Virtuous Daughters, February 2006~Volume 5, Number 11 Almost everyone likes new beginnings! by Heather from Virtuous Daughters, September 2010~Volume 10, Number 6 As my home school family learns about this vast earth, we notice that everything has a beginning and an end. We read that even our ever faithful sun is using up its energy at an astonishing rate of millions of tons each second; it can’t last forever, and hasn’t always been. Such can truthfully be said about the entire universe; everything has a beginning and end. So, when as Christians we claim the God of the Bible as the divine Designer of the world, someone could very well pose the questions, “Who created God? When was His beginning?”
"Waiting on the Lord" Series by Kristin from Virtuous Daughters, November 2015~Volume 15, Number 8 First of all, I would like to start by saying that I will be preaching to myself. If you happen to benefit from it, that’s great. I most certainly have not “arrived,” and my guess is that I will not be arriving anytime soon.
Ever since I was little, I have always wanted to be married and have a family. When I was around 10 years old, I figured I would be married by 20, so I just had to wait 10 more years!!! Well, I just had my 32nd birthday, and no Prince Farming…(Yes, I meant that. I’d rather have a farmer than a charmer.) Needless to say, singleness has been, and continues to be, one of the greatest struggles of my life. So I’m going to share with you a few thoughts that I hope will turn your eyes (and mine!) back to the faithfulness of our Lord Jesus Christ… by Tiffany S. from Virtuous Daughters, December 2006~Volume 6, Number 9 Christmas—what a special time of year! For many, it is a favorite holiday. But the meaning goes far beyond cookies, music, and presents. It’s about the risen Christ Who has come to this world to save us from our sins. That is something to be excited about!
Even though most of us are quite aware of this wonderful news, we occasionally take it for granted and do not joyfully share it with others. But Christmas is a time when we have ample opportunity to proclaim Christ’s birth, death, resurrection, and the Gospel message. Here I would like to share with you an idea of a way to do that. |
